Dental Bonding![]() Forms of Dental BondingTypically, there are two kinds of bonding. Composite direct bonding involves the use of composite materials that have the color of a tooth to fill cavities and repair cracks or close gaps between your teeth. If the lower edges of your teeth are worn, we can fill them with composite material. We apply and shape the material to create the desired changes. Adhesive bonding is not like direct bonding. Instead, it is used to place a restoration on a tooth. We use adhesive bonding for aesthetic crowns, inlays, bridges, and porcelain veneers. Our dentist first chooses a color matching the shade of your teeth and scrapes the surface using a roughening agent. The dentist uses a putty-like resin material that is applied to the tooth and molded and smoothened to the desired shape. A curing light is then used to harden the resin material. Once the desired shape is attained, the dentist polishes the resin to match the brightness of the other tooth surfaces. Who Benefits from Teeth Bonding? Many patients can benefit from teeth bonding, including those who have crooked or chipped teeth, permanently stained teeth, fractured teeth, excessive teeth gaps, and those needing to replace metallic fillings. We use tooth bonding to effectively bring back the shape as well as structure of crooked, chipped, or broken teeth. Additionally, we use tooth bonding to close excessive spaces between adjacent teeth, also known as a diastema. If you have permanent tooth stains, and teeth whitening cannot do the trick to remove the stains, we apply dental bonding to hide the stains. Our team also uses tooth bonding for a complete smile makeover where we restore the color, size, as well as shape of the teeth. In case you have one or several fractured teeth as a result of an injury, we can restore their shape through bonding. Our dentists have also used tooth bonding to replace metal fillings that are unbecoming in appearance or carry health risks. Aftercare Tips for Bonded TeethOnce you have had tooth bonding you need to limit tea, coffee, and tobacco consumption because they can stain the composite resin bonding material. Avoid foods that are sticky or hard, such as caramel and nuts, because they can make the bond between your teeth and filling material fail. Make sure you visit us for regular checkups to see that both the bonding and your teeth are in good form.
